Following the passage of the Land Transport and Related Matters Bill on 4 February 2026, stricter penalties for several serious offences will take effect on 27 February 2026:

Illegal Vehicle Alterations: To deter workshops and individuals, the maximum fine for illegal modifications (like loud exhausts or overly tinted windows) will rise to $20,000 for individuals and $40,000 for companies for first-time offences. Penalties double for repeat offenders.
Unregistered/Deregistered Vehicles: Keeping or using such vehicles now carries a fine of up to $20,000 and/or a jail term of up to two years for a first offence.
Speed Limiter Tampering: Fines for non-compliance or tampering with speed limiters on lorries will increase from $1,000 to a maximum of $10,000 for a first offence.
